Ashikaga Shogunate
足利幕府 ashikaga-bakufu
(1338-1573)

The Ashikaga shogunate, also known as the Muromachi shogunate, was a feudal military regime, ruled nearly 250 years by the shoguns of the Ashikaga family. Because the third shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu established his residence in Kyôto´s Muromachi street, this period is known as the Muromachi period.
