Toyota is a city located in Aichi Prefecture, southeast of Nagoya. In former town Koromo, a major
producer of silk, Toyoda
Sakichi startet a spinning and weaving company, his son Toyoda
Kiichirô opened an automobile company in 1938 called Toyota Motor Corporation. Koromo
town gained city status in 1951
and changed it name to Toyota in 1959. Toyota became the sister city of
Detroit, another automotive industry headquarters in the United States.
Toyota absorbed several villages and towns and could so gather a
population of about 420.000 people.
