Residential and commercial posh district in Minato-ku, located west of the government center in Nagata-chô and north of Roppongi night life district. Akasaka, including the neighboring area of Aoyama, was a ward of Tôkyô City from 1878 to 1947, and maintains a branch office of the Minato City government. The State Guest House (geihinkan) in Moto Akasaka is a facility in which the government accommodates visiting state dignitaries. The architect KATAYAMA Tokuma designed a neo baroque structure as a residence for the Crown Prince.
