Izumo no Okuni 出雲の阿国

Izumo no Okuni, who was believed to be a miko at the Izumo-taisha shrine, was the originator of the kabuki theater. She began performing a new style of singing, acting and dancing in the dry riverbeds of Kamogawa river in Kyôto.
