Historische Tempelanlage
Asuka-dera, in early days Hôkô-ji and Gango-ji, was built at the end of
the 6th century, after buddhism was introduced to Japan. The influence
of Korean Buddhist culture is evidenced in the architecture of the
buildings. Asuka-dera is
representative of the large temples of that time. The temple hosts the
oldest extant Buddha image in Japan.
