(966? - 1025?)

Sei Shônagon was one of the most prominent woman writers of the Heian period and famous for her witty essays Makura no sôshi (Pillow Book), a collection of reminiscenes, anecdotes, and very candid opinions about the world of court. Sei Shônagon was a court-lady and served - like Murasaki Shikubu - one of the wives of the Emperor Ichijô.
